iQOO 3 : Worth buying in 2021?

iQOO, for those of you who don’t know, is a subsidiary of Chinese manufacturer Vivo, whose Parent company, in-turn is BBK Electronics. The first smartphone that iQOO launched here in India was the iQOO 3 , which quite surprisingly launched at a good price, considering what it came packed with. It was launched at 37K INR. But in a year’s time, the price’s has dropped significantly. It currently retails at 25K on Flipkart . iQOO 3 Shot on iPhone 5s (Blogger compression killed it -_-)  Having got it on Flipkart, I’ve been using the iQOO 3 for about two weeks now and here’s my review of the same.  Performance The iQOO 3’s got 2020’s flagship SoC, Snapdragon 865 . And just like any other flagship chip, this too performs exceptionally well. Day-to-day tasks are child’s play and graphically intensive tasks too are handled really well. For me, who previously used the Redmi 7, with the Snapdragon 632, this feels so much faster. What betters the experience is the 8 Gigabytes of DDR5 RAM...

Quad-Camera Setups on Mid-Range Smartphones: The Biggest Scam in the Smartphone Industry!!

There are quite a few key aspects that one looks into, before buying a new smartphone. A common man usually looks into the cameras and the design of the smartphone. (Few of them, might also check on the processor and the battery life)
A common person never cares about Software, which is one of the most important aspect of image processing. This is the reason why, though smartphones have very bad software, but have 4-5 cameras, wherein only 1 or 2 is REQUIRED, they are quite popular and successful.

Image meant only for representation. No harm intended to specific brand/company

Almost every mid-range (Sub-20K)smartphone out there has a minimum of 3 cameras and 1 (sometimes 2) is/are of NO USE!
Some of them though, have 4 cameras, 2 of which will surely be useless.

A mid-range smartphone with a Quad-Camera setup usually has a 48/64-Megapixel Primary shooter, which does quite good, an 8-Megapixel Ultra-wide

The primary’s fine. But ‘8’ Megapixel Ultra-wide! It is the ultra wide angle camera that has a higher field of view and it is also the one capturing less detail. The ultra wide angle camera is the one that needs to have higher resolution, at least close to that of the primary. But no, it’s always 1/5th or even 1/6th sometimes.

The next thing on a ‘Quad-Camera Setup’ is a 2-Megapixel Macro Camera
This would be fine, IF you’ve at least got good software to compensate. But no, brands just want to make up numbers. A 2-Megapixel macro camera is surely of no use, with the primary being so good.
A 2x telephoto would be far more appreciated. Even a higher res Marco camera could do it.

The last and my favourite [:)] camera on a ‘Quad-Camera Setup’ - DEPTH  SENSOR!!!!!
Why on earth would one want to have a depth  sensor, when all of the background blur / bokeh can be done via software. There are so many Flagship smartphones of the same brand doing it without a depth sensor and they want one on the budget and mid-range to make up numbers.

The takeaway here is rant brands adding  dept sensors on Quad-Camera setups.
You’ve surely not got to fall for these gimmicks my smartphone brands.

If a mid-range smartphone has got some aspect that you really require with a really bad ‘Quad-camera setup’ and if you’re someone who never shoot pictures on your smartphone to you just don’t care, you surely can go ahead and get that smartphone.

But if you’re someone wanting a camera-centric smartphone, then a ‘Quad-Camera’ Setup with two 2-Megapixel Sensors is something you should be away from.

This was it for the blog.
Hope you liked it :)
Thanks for reading till the end.

OBS Studio: Makes your Video Conferencing / Recording MUCH BETTER!

In the recent past, the companies that have gained huge popularity are Video-conferencing and online learning platforms (Byjus' and WhiteHatJr).  And so is the popularity for screen recorders and virtual-cameras. You might've heard of screen recorders and Video-conferencing software, but what's a virtual-camera? A camera without hardware? Absolutely not!  A virtual-camera is something that can output/stream video wherever you want it to.  Virtual Camera on OBS:  OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is a widely used open-source streaming/recording software. As the name suggests, it helps you with streaming/recording content from you PC.  Image Courtesy: Elegant Themes How to use it?  Here's a mini-guide on how it can be useful to you If you've got to configure your video, i.e, crop out, adjust the lighting (through software though: Brightness) and all other kinds of configurations, here's how you've to do it.   In the "Sources" Window in the bott...

5G Bands! : Which one should your smartphone have?

There are many brands out there selling smartphones with the 5G naming/sticker. That’s of course because the smartphone would have a built-in 5G modem. But wait, just a modem doesn’t make it 5G capable. You’ve got to have bands supporting the frequency that’s provided in the country.  Image Courtesy: Unsplash So, to explain in simple terms, it’s like having a basket’s diameter a little more than the ball’s, in basketball. If the ball’s got to enter the basket, it’s(the basket) surely got to have a greater diameter. It’s the same here. Specific bands are required for specific frequencies. Here’s what you’ve got to be aware of: 5G, in India will most probably start rolling out with 3.3GHz frequency, ‘ initially ’. And the only band that supports this frequency is the n78 . If the smartphone you’re looking to buy has got the n78 band, you can go for it, at your own risk. And I say that because the frequency spectrum isn’t quite confirmed yet. What you’ve not got to do is buy a 5G capa...
